We’ve been following the OneTaste saga here at HARD COPY, and it’s been quite a trip, with the most recent chapter culminating in convictions of one of the company’s co-founders and a former head of sales on forced labor charges. OneTaste was founded in 2004 and is in the business of sexual mindfulness, with a particular emphasis on orgasmic meditation. In 2022 a Netflix documentary (executive produced by Lena Dunham) was released. The film definitely helped to affix some sex cult vibes to OneTaste in the popular cultural imagination. OneTaste sued Netflix for defamation but lost the case. Despite these recent convictions not everyone agrees in the hype around OneTaste or that it has committed any serious wrong-doing. According to senior editor at Reason, Elizabeth Nolan Brown, “from the lurid occult associations to the implied sex trafficking allegations, there’s precious little substance to this case—just salaciousness, scandal, and the all-too-familiar sense that female sexuality is something to be suppressed and controlled by the state.” You can check out her full argument here. And below is the trailer to the aforementioned documentary Orgasm Inc: The Story of OneTaste if you’re so inclined my dear sexual subjects.
