Religion, age, and politics are the biggest influences on a person’s opinion regarding abortion and reproductive rights, but gender is also a component. There is a sharp divide between Gen Z women and men over reproductive rights. In a recent survey, 76% of Gen Z women believe that abortions should be legal while only 59% of Gen Z men believe it should be legal. PBS News Hours looks at the reasons for this divide. Ryan Burge of Washington University tells the News Hours that the overturning of Dobbs shocked women “because it took a right away that they’d had for a long time.” He continues that one reason for the divide may be because the decision did not affect men in the same way.
