In the past few weeks the Trump administration has made moves that, on the surface, seem to be positive moves in healthcare. However, if looked at closely these moves could make things worse or do nothing at all.
The administration has recently reinstated the LGBTQ suicide hotline that it shut down in August 2025. This may seem to be a move in the right direction, but the department that oversees the hotline has vowed to “restore biological truth”, which could put those using the hotline at greater risk.
And a newly announced executive order looks to create a federal women’s health division to promote research into women’s health. This research is sorely needed, but researchers question how this will work when an earlier executive order by Trump restricts certain words pertaining to gender, among others, in federal research grants.
Like the administration’s teen pregnancy prevention programs, these initiatives look good until you read the fine print.
