Age Verification Laws Limit Sex Education

A new report released by the Woodhull Freedom Foundation shows that 76% of sex education professionals are concerned that the age verification laws passed by nearly half of U.S. states will restrict youth access to sex education resources. One third of those in states with these laws say they have already interfered with their work. Although intended to keep young people away from pornographic websites, these laws are broadly written to target any material that might be deemed “harmful to minors,” a standard so vague that it could easily be manipulated to include any discussion of sex. The laws are also ineffective, since technically sophisticated youth can utilize VPNs to get around the age requirement.
