The Dry Season: A Memoir of Pleasure in a Year Without Sex was recently published in June. In it, Melissa Febos, a professor at the University of Iowa, chronicles her year of intentional abstinence. While sex can be extremely nourishing, it also can sap a subject of a great deal of emotional and physical energy. Those who suffer from sex addiction, for instance, often describe such strain as extremely debilitating. The results of Febos’ experimental sex hiatus were generative and are interesting to learn about from within the context of her personal experience. Equally compelling is Febos’ discussion of what led her to sex try this sexperiment in the first place. We’ve linked you to an episode of the NPR Podcast Life Kit that features an interview with Febos. Ear-peep it if you’re so inclined dear sexual subjects.
