It is important to note that there has been some sassy pushback in response to the anti-LGBTQ+ antics of the current cruel and out-of-touch American administration. More than 1,000 people attended a fundraiser for the American Civil Liberties Union at a gay bar in Brooklyn on April 16. The drag event raised $25,000, and the performances satirized high-profile MAGA personalities such as Erika Kirk, Rudy Guilliani, Kristi Noem, and Melania Trump.
And in other strut-worthy news, Canadian Dora Alcover has just completed a 3,000+ kilometer journey in platform heels to raise awareness about sex trafficking. Her walk started in Barcelona, Spain last year, and has spanned 280 days and nine countries. While such performative stunts may have limited real-world impact, it is heartening that citizens are not sitting idly while their governments wreak havoc on both local and global stages.
