Labour MP Sarah Niblett has won parliamentary debate time next Fall for her proposal to fund lifelong adult sex education, with the goal of fostering better understanding of consent, abuse, toxic masculinity, and how childbirth, menopause, and medical conditions can affect sexual pleasure. In anticipation of that debate, she has announced a campaign for a “summer of sex” in 2026 and plans to bring sex toys into parliament. As we have reported, the UK has recently been dealing with proposals to ban various forms of pornography deemed unhealthy, such as that which depicts strangulation or incest. Niblett’s effort is to balance these limitations with sex-positive information. While this intention can be applauded, some may worry about government-sponsored messaging in the area of intimate relations: what is included and excluded will always provoke controversy.
