Detransition Recognized as a Valid Medical Condition

The CDC has only recently added medical codes for patients whose gender dysphoria is resolved or who wish to detransition after taking hormones or undergoing surgery. The previous lack of coding in the medical system was a big deal, because it has made it difficult to track the number of patients in these categories; estimates of desistence or detransition rates vary widely. The absence of medical codes also made it unlikely that insurance would pay for help with detransition, in contrast to transition, which generally is covered due to its recognition as a valid medical procedure. Trans activists have long claimed that detransition is rare, but detransitioners  feel validated by seeing their condition officially recognized.
