Anti-deportation activists have noted a trend for Grindr activity to increase dramatically whenever ICE targets a jurisdiction for enhanced enforcement, as has recently happened in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. This may in part be due to ICE using Grindr and other social media as tools to track the location of their targets and set up meetings with them. But activists suspect that it is more likely that many ICE agents are themselves gay and promiscuous, and for that reason are willing to enlist in a job that takes them to many different urban locations. From the time of the Nazi SA (later purged), there has been a long, albeit submerged tradition of hyper-masculinist right-wing gay culture characterized by misogynistic and racist beliefs. Some activists have encouraged the doxxing, exposure, and public embarrassment of gay ICE agents, which raises numerous ethical dilemmas for LGBTQ people. Such doxxing efforts also create risk that gay men who are misidentified as ICE agents could fall victim to exposure.
