Hot off the press! Second Coming: Sex and the Next Generation’s Fight Over Its Future explores Gen Z’s sex lives (or lack thereof!) and dissects some of the social, political, and psychological factors that may be contouring young people’s sexual subjectivity. Journalist Carter Sherman compares the different brands of sexual speculation that cyclically plagues each new generation. Millenials, for example, Britney Spears’ generation, were identified as oversexualized while Gen Z is increasingly hailed as near asexual. While such explorations often amount to little more than irritating click bait and desperate sensationalizing, Sherman’s book effectively digs into some of the major material issues that affect young sexual subjects and their motivations to get frisky. We’re linking you to a Guardian story by the author herself that provides a good summary of the project and describes her rationale for taking it on.
