Although Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s government banned Pride gatherings in his country recently, around 100,000 people showed up to March on the 28th in a significant “fuck you!” showing of fierce resistance and solidarity. The amendment to Hungary’s constitution that led to the Pride ban was motivated by “child protection” according to the government. More than 70 members of the European Pariliament (and other European officials as well) participated in the March, which is only adding to the political tensions between Hungary and Europe. With a general election scheduled in Hungary for April 2026, journal Gordon Cole-Schmidt warns that the LGBQT communities are only going to be targeted more severely by Orbán’s administration in the near future.
