No Nut November (#NNN) is a trending internet challenge in which participants attempt to abstain from ejaculation and orgasm by not masturbating and/or not engaging in partnered sex for the entirety of the month. While studies have elucidated physical and psychological health benefits of masturbation/orgasm as well as abstinence from them, the effects of temporary periods of abstinence like NNN on sexual subjects are under explored. This recent study from The Journal of Sexual Medicine investigates whether any sexual wellbeing outcomes are associated with #NNN participation, as well as whether temporary periods of sexual abstinence can bring benefits to sexual subjects over time. The study finds that temporary abstinence on the whole neither benefits nor harms psychological and physical health.
