Apps that can realistically alter human bodies and put them in, let’s say, compromising positions in photographs and videos, have become very accessible and are rapidly growing in popularity all over the world, particularly amongst student populations. The Guardian’s education correspondent Sally Weale investigated what teachers and administrators are up against in trying to deal with this new-age harassment tool. Recently, we’ve witnessed social media – a significant platform and facilitator of AI technology – being curtailed and/or banned for youth in a growing contingent of countries. Surely the havoc this technology is wreaking is indicative of why such panic over youth engagement with social media is surfacing globally.
