There are lots of parallels between sex and food, and I’m surprised the two don’t cross over in the news more often. For one, both require an appetite, and appetites need to be sustained. Slutty Cheff is an anonymous chef from London, England, who writes about her experiences in the restaurant industry – the Orville Peck of foodies if you will. Being a chef intersects with other important aspects of her identity: female, slutty, and sassy to name a few. Perhaps her anonymity enables her to call out all the sexism she comes up against in her line of work. Or maybe it’s mostly a sales tactic. Nonetheless, Slutty Cheff’s memoir, Tart: Misadventures of an Anonymous Chef, reminds me a lot of Toronto restaurateur Jen Agg’s memoir I Hear She’s A Real Bitch from 2018, both in tone and content. If you’re interested in the intersections of food, sex, gender, and work, both are probably worth your time. We’ve linked you to a review of Tart from British Vogue. Bon Appétit!
