This is the latest iteration of what historian Richard Hofstadter identified over 60 years ago as “the paranoid style in American politics,” which he traced back to the era of the nation’s founding. Even serious observers on the Right worry that this dogma about “systemic pedophilia” is becoming an embarrassment.
