Boots is an eight-part comedic drama series that was released by Netflix on October 9, 2025. The show is based on the 2026 memoir The Pink Marine by Greg Cope White. The plot is set in 1990 and follows a closeted young gay man and his straight best friend who join the marines. Speaking of 1990, American Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recently introduced “the 1990 test”, which compares military standards from 1990 to today’s. His point being that standards for military personnel have slackened since 1990. And what changes in military standards and training have occurred since 1990, you ask? Oh, just ones that protect the rights of women, racialized, and LGBTQ+ enlisted people! No big deal. And don’t forget about President Donald Trump’s Executive Order 14183 that he issued on January 27, 2025, which banned trans people from enlisting and serving in the armed forces.
