Canada Not Turning Its Back on Queer immigrants

LGBTQ+ and immigrant rights and freedoms are in flux around the world, and the United States is leading the charge in turning back the clock where progress and justice are concerned for these intersecting population groups. In a breath of fresh air, Canada has reaffirmed its commitment to respond to the world’s immigration crises with compassion and targeted policies and programs. Specifically, and among other commitments, Canada has renewed its Rainbow Refugee Assistance Partnership for another five years. Under this particular program the federal government shares sponsorship costs of LGBTQI+ refugees with private parties. Since 2011 this program has helped more than 330 refugees through collaborations with over 60 organizations across the country.
