We reported earlier this year on Canadian fiddle-player and songwriter Ashley MacIsaac, who suffered concert cancellations after Google’s AI Overview published claims that he was guilty of sexually assaulting a woman and of luring a child with sexual intent. He has now filed a $1.5 million defamation suit against Google, alleging both material damages and serious emotional distress. MacIsaac said he is now afraid to perform in public, since someone exposed to the false information might kill or assault him, a phenomenon all too common when one is suspected of being a sex offender. Error-prone AI and consumers’ naïve reliance upon it can put people’s lives at risk.
