Thousands of Americans a year wind up in the hospital for misusing vibrators or dildoes. It is most often young men under 30 who have an object lodged so far up their rectum that it does not come out. Toys stuck in vaginas are less common. The resulting injuries can be serious enough that nearly half of the cases involving stuck dildoes cannot be resolved in the Emergency Room, but require longer hospitalization. Experts recommend using sex toys with a flared base so that they cannot become completely submerged into bodily orifices.
