Researchers conducted interviews with 27 young people aged 18-24 in Quebec about the effects of cannabis on their sexual experiences. Many, especially cis women, reported using it in advance of sex to reduce anxiety, inhibition, or recollection of past trauma. Many also reported that it enhanced pleasurable sensations during sex, creating feelings of greater intensity and euphoria or closer intimacy and connection with their partner. Some men reported feeling more energetic and aroused. For some, cannabis use generated a conditioned response because of past associations with sexual pleasure, while for heavy users cannabis was simply such a routine part of their daily lives that they saw no reason not to use it in sexual situations. These results parallel those of an earlier quantitative survey, where over 70% of cannabis users of all ages reported greater desire and orgasm intensity.
