Queers Sheds is an LGBTQ+ community mobilizing network that was started in 2024 in County Clare, Southern Ireland. Its founders were interested in developing opportunities for rural queers to find each other and stay connected. While queer bars and clubs can do wonders for community building in urban settings, rural queers often don’t have access to such spaces. Additionally, not everyone is interested in having alcohol feature so prominently in their social lives. Instead, Queer Sheds empowers community members to build social hubs that focus on skill sharing, knowledge acquisition, and fun gatherings with an intentional focus on environmental topics and concerns. Building queer solidarity by fostering connections to nature as opposed to commercial and alcohol-driven interests, has proved valuable for Irish rural LGBTQ+ populations. There are now Queer Sheds popping up throughout the country. You can read more about the project’s inception HERE. Also, below, we’ve linked you a quick video clip about the initiative. Give it a peep my dear sexual subjects.
