In a state where water is literally everywhere, Florida legislators have introduced bills to prohibit anyone with a sexual offense in their history from ever “being” within 200 feet of any body of water, presumably to prevent them from seeing a child or woman in a bathing suit. They would not be allowed to live within 1000 feet of Florida’s highly developed coastline, any lake, river, or canal. They also would not be able to stay in any apartment complex or motel with a swimming pool. It would effectively make most of the state uninhabitable for them. Such legislation is more about making politicians appear tough on criminals and sexual “deviates” than protecting children; most child molestation is committed by other children and friends of the family, not by former sex offenders.
In related craziness, Republican gubernatorial candidate James Fishback has proposed a 50% “sin tax” on any income derived from OnlyFans, claiming that performers who create content on the platform are exploited victims: “My message to the owners of OnlyFans is get the hell out of our state. I hope you get bankrupt. Don’t you dare come to my state and try to exploit and abuse young women.” OnlyFans content creators counter that they are voluntary agents for whom the platform provides needed financial support.more than 330 refugees through collaborations with over 60 organizations across the country.
