FBI: Epstein Was Not Running a Sex-Trafficking Ring

After exhaustive review of the copious e-mails and bank records of Jeffrey Epstein, the FBI has concluded there is no credible evidence he was trafficking women to other men, as is commonly alleged by the conspiracy theories surrounding the late financier. They did find ample evidence of his paying high-school aged girls for sexualized massages for himself, but no evidence that he solicited them to do so for others or had a “client list.” Any contact they had with guests at his estate appears to have been negotiated independently.

The allegation that he was running an elaborate scheme to traffic underage girls is largely due to one accuser, Virginia Giuffre, who later committed suicide after winning millions from the Epstein estate. Giuffre acknowledged writing a partly fictionalized memoir of her time with Epstein containing descriptions of things that didn’t take place. She had also offered shifting accounts in interviews with investigators, FBI prosecutors wrote, and had “engaged in a continuous stream of public interviews about her allegations, many of which have included sensationalized if not demonstrably inaccurate characterizations of her experiences.” Those inaccuracies included false accounts of her interactions with the FBI, they said.
