With the continued rise of authoritarianism and conservative movements LGBTQ+ rights are continuing to be rolled back. In Russia, authorities have banned Coming Out, an LGBTQ+ rights organization, following a closed-door court proceeding, intensifying the country’s crackdown on LGBTQ+ advocacy groups. In Malaysia, in addition to blocking access to Grindr and other gay dating websites, the government is pursuing legal measures to curb the availability of LGBTQ+ dating apps on Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store.

In contrast, the Supreme Court of Ukraine has recognized a de facto same sex marriage, a ruling that could expand legal recognition for same-sex couples despite the country’s lack of formal marriage equality.
