South Korea’s conservative Protestants represent only a fifth of the population in a country where most people follow no religion, yet they have wielded huge influence over the government which has blocked a comprehensive anti-discrimination law that would protect LGBTQ+ people, women, people with disabilities, and racial minorities. Similar to what is happening in the U.S., a minority of conservative Christians have been pushing an anti-LGBTQ+ agenda and, according to a survey by Hankook Research, has negatively influenced public opinion regarding the LGBTQ+ community. Despite the regressive environment, an estimated 50,000 people attended the 2026 Seoul Queer Parade.
Pride Fest Cambodia 2026 will take place on June 20th. Cambodia’s Pride celebrations started back in 2003 and have been growing ever since. Although same-sex marriages and civil partnerships are not legal, homosexuality itself is not illegal as in some other Asian countries. Panel discussions regarding community advocacy and rights will be additions to Pride Fest events this year.
