The increasing normalization of choking as part of sexual play is causing some sexual subjects alarm. We reported on this in a past sex news load, but the United Kingdom has in fact announced that it will ban the depiction of strangulation in pornography, primarily to safeguard women against violence. As BDSM styles of sex rise in popularity in mainstream culture, there’s certainly a lot to consider here. “Depictions of strangulation”, however, are not the same as instances of sexual violence. If pornography as fiction is regulated by governments, some may justifiably express concern. Will portrayals of rough sex in novels be outlawed next? Will films that contain storylines of paedophilia or sexual abuse eventually be censored? Anna Moore, writing for The Guardian, provides some excellent analysis of the phenomenon of choking as a sexual taste.
