Is there a world in which scheduling sex is sexy? A new study by researchers from York University in Ontario, Canada has found that doing so can actually lead to more sex, as well as less obligatory sex, reducing sexual subjects’ overall relationship anxiety. The study consisted of more than 500 participants from Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand of all gender and sexual orientations who are parents of young children. In the cultures that this study’s participants hailed from, spontaneous sex is idealized, and is represented in film, novels, pornography, and other popular culture mediums as off the cuff and lust driven. While these qualities of sex may be prominent, they are fantastical. Unplanned sex is often neither ideal, nor possible, for a variety of subjects for a variety of reasons (being a parent of young children is but one glaring example). Not only did planning sex lead to more sex for the participants in this study, but it increased their desire and improved the quality of their relationships.
