A lawsuit recently filed against a San Francisco apartment building claims it was negligent in failing to stop a 17-year old resident from engaging in sex work. The suit claims that maintenance personnel should have notice the presence of condoms and drug paraphernalia in her unit and that doormen should have noticed her provocative attire and numerous male visitors to the unit she shared with her alleged trafficker. Similarly, a Miami Beach nightclub is being sued for hosting lavish events at which sex traffickers attracted victims. We have reported before on such lawsuits against hotels. Do we really want to return to a society in which women are put under constant sexual surveillance to insure that no man takes advantage of them?
