As Hard Copy reported back in January, in 2026 the fight for reproductive rights and healthcare is heading to the courts. Although there is little political support for limiting access to reproductive healthcare, groups looking to restrict or ban it are going to the courts on the state and federal level. For example, in order to stop abortion medication reaching states with bans, Texas resident Jerry Rodriguez filed a lawsuit accusing California doctor Remy Coeytaux of wrongful death for allegedly mailing medications to Rodriguez’ partner to end her pregnancy. There, unfortunately, is very long list of these attacks on reproductive rights. Not shocking, but still chilling, is the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2026 “family first” plan, which is anti-women as well as anti-LGBTQ+.
Reproductive justice activists are fighting back. One win has been Arizona’s state court ruling that multiple state abortion restrictions violate 2024 voter approved constitutional amendment protecting abortion rights significantly expanding abortion access in the state. The Center for Reproductive Rights has filed multiple lawsuits to reverse restrictions and bans and to protect the right for reproductive healthcare.
